Abstract

Introduction: We report a case of spontaneous rupture of a renal angiomyolipoma during pregnancy

which is rare and occasionally fatal. A 30-year-old woman was referred at 38 weeks of gestation with left flank

pain, preeclampsia and anemia. The gynecologists performed an emergency cesarean section for fetal distress

and found moderate retroperitoneal hematoma during the operation. Conservative management was

recommended for the retroperitoneal hematoma. However, after delivery, her hemodynamic status continued

to detoriorate despite blood transfusions. Further work-up with abdominal computed tomography reveled a

large left renal angiomyolipoma with spontaneous rupture. Left total nephrectomy was performed without

complications by transperitoneal approach because of tumor localization and unstable hemodynamic

condition of the patient
